Much of the talk in the press over the last couple of days has centred around the chances of Gary Cahill making his Palace debut but thanks to a tweet sent by Mamadou Sakho, it looks like Eagles fans may have another defensive boost before too long.
The Frenchman has long been seen as Roy Hodgson’s most talented central defender and whilst Scott Dann and Martin Kelly have done a passable job in the opening two games of the campaign, any opportunity to bring the former Liverpool man back into the fold will surely be taken by the boss.

After featuring in a pre-season friendly against AFC Wimbledon back in July, we’re yet to hear of any further updates in regard to Mama’s match readiness leaving many to arrive at the conclusion that he suffered a setback in his recovery. Whilst his presence in the squad up in Manchester wouldn’t guarantee a more positive outcome, it goes without saying that fans, players and coaches alike would feel comforted by his return.
Roy Hodgson is set to complete his pre-match press conference ahead of our clash with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s Reds either today or tomorrow, at which point, you’d hope he’d be asked directly about Sakho’s chances of being involved. Although goals are the most pressing concern for everyone of a red and blue persuasion, our ability to keep them out at the other end remains a matter of paramount importance; a task Sakho can undoubtedly help us with when fully fit.
