Rewind a matter of days and the news that Wilfried Zaha had handed in a transfer request at Crystal Palace had everyone associated with the club fretting as to what the future held but yesterday, the winger posted a video onto his social media accounts which suggested that all is well and good in his head once again.
After only making it onto the pitch as a 65th minute replacement for Jordan Ayew in the opening day draw with Everton at Selhurst Park, Zaha will no doubt be hoping that another full week of training will be enough to convince boss Roy Hodgson that he’s ready for a starting place against Sheffield United this Sunday. It goes without saying that when fully fit, Wilf is the first name on the gaffer’s team-sheet but after returning late to training following his exploits at the African Cup of Nations, you can’t blame Roy and the medical team for being a little cautious.
What is clear from the footage posted by Zaha is that on the pitch, he’s feeling better than ever; happy to show the world him linking up superbly with Christian Benteke in a training match, with a cross that made it almost impossible for the big Belgian to miss just feet from the goal. Their interplay has been a topic of discussion for well over a year now with the striker struggling in front of goal but if our Premier League clashes shape up anything like the above clip, we could be in for a stellar nine months.
You can bet every penny you’ve got that the same hysteria and speculation will reappear around Zaha once the transfer window opens for business again at the start of 2020 but for now, he, his teammates and us as supporters get to concentrate solely on the game itself and I think I speak for almost everyone when I say what a blessed relief that is.
