According to a report from Soccer Link, Palace are now active players in the French market, putting out enquiries as to the possible availability of Bordeaux’s Youssouf Sabaly and Strasbourg’s Kenny Lala ahead of today’s 5pm deadline.
The Eagles have been in desperate need of a replacement for Aaron Wan-Bissaka since the academy graduate made a £45 million move to Manchester United a few weeks ago but have so far come up empty. To see us linked with two genuinely talented full-backs this late in the window is both exciting and a little puzzling, given our supposed knowledge of them well in advance of today’s market closure.
Sabaly (26) and Lala (27) are both capable of operating on either side of the back four, which would be ideal for Roy Hodgson, who is known to want reinforcements in both positions. Whilst both players are undeniably talented, my personal preference would be to go for Lala, whose five goals and 10 assists across all competitions last season really caught the eye. Of course, in order to get a deal sorted Strasbourg would have to be willing to sell which isn’t a guarantee this late on, regardless of the price on offer.
Somehow, we’re expected to be lining up moves for full-back cover, a striker and Rennes winger Ismaila Sarr inside the next 10 hours. Surely that’s not possible? I expect you’re wondering. I’m inclined to agree but that’s the scenario we find ourselves in on this fine Thursday morning.
