This morning, we referenced reports linking Real Betis midfielder Victor Camarasa with a move to Crystal Palace and now it sounds as though club officials (most likely Dougie Freedman + 1) have travelled to Seville to put the finishing touches to a deal.
Having spent last season on loan at Cardiff City, the 25-year-old showed himself to be a competent operator on these shores and despite him now being back in training with the Spanish outfit, they are apparently open to agreeing his permanent exit ahead of the deadline in a week’s time.
Indeed, the latest report from Marca hints that all the details could be ironed out “within the next few hours” which must mean that the player himself is also keen to push through a deal with plenty of time left to spare. The central midfielder’s current contract has a release clause of €25 million but high figures are inserted into La Liga players’ deals as a formality, with the eventual likely to come in significantly below such a sum.
As we said this morning, Camarasa’s total of 11 combined goals and assists for Cardiff across 31 appearances bodes well for his future role at Selhurst Park. Quite how he’s seen as fitting into Roy Hodgson’s plans remains to be decided but on the face of it, he could well end up being a very canny bit of business for a fee that won’t break the bank.
Victor would be just the third signing of the summer for Palace after Henderson and Ayew but if it signals the start of a busy final few days, I and I’m sure thousands of others are all for it.
