In any transfer window, you’ll get people claiming to know in-depth histories of each and every Palace target as soon as their name pops up in the media but even the most clued up football anorak would have a hard time pretending to know much about Davis Abanda.
According to a report in French publication L’Equipe, both Palace and West Ham United are keen on the teenager, currently on the books of Ligue 2 side Ajaccio. The twin brother of Milan left-back Leroy Abanda, the youngster clearly comes from good sporting stock but with little to dissect in terms of first-team performances, we as supporters are left to trust the scouts who’ve no doubt watched him over the last few months.
Both clubs are said to be following Davis closely but the suggestion is that Palace may make the first move, as they look to steal a march on Pellegrini and co. This is far from the first time that we and the Hammers have been grouped together in a transfer rumour, with both club’s transfer strategies often seen to mirror one another. Why that is remains up for debate but if we are to beat them to the punch, we’ll have to work quickly.
With just one year left on his current contract with the French outfit, they’ll no doubt be keen to do a deal if our interest is concrete, with the potential for a decent fee no doubt an attractive prospect for a player who is still so young. Can we go against tradition and push this one across the line before pre-season training even begins? We live in hope.
