Crystal Palace are thought to be keen on rivalling the likes of Arsenal, Tottenham and AC Milan in a summer move for breakout Brentford star Said Benrahma.
The 23-year-old Algerian had been on the books at Nice before making the decision to join the Bees ahead of the 2018/19 season, agreeing to a four-year contract. After some promising early signs, Said returned from an injury in December and promptly hit a purple patch of form, scoring 10 goals in 12 games across all competitions; catching the eye of scouts across the country.
In just over 2,000 minutes of league football, Benrahma has amassed nine goals and 11 assists, with seven Man of the Match awards coming his way too. It’s an eyebrow-raising explosion of form for the youngster with the reaction across the game hardly a surprise. Does it mean that he’ll continue to flourish for years to come? That’s far from a simple question to answer. In the four years prior to this season, Said was given just under 700 minutes of league football with a grand total of one league start over in France, a statistic which suggests he was simply undervalued by his coaches at Nice and Angers.
Whether or not this campaign’s exploits will be enough to see him kick on and establish himself as a key cog in one of Europe’s top clubs remains to be seen but for Palace, it’s certainly nice to be linked with a player who’s made such an impact in the Championship since August.
