Palace fans have grown used to seeing Aaron Wan-Bissaka linked with all sorts of “super clubs” over the last few months and now German giants Bayern Munich have thrown their hat into the ring according to The Daily Mail.
We’ve seen the 21-year-old talked about in the same breath as Chelsea, Manchester City, Manchester United, Tottenham, Everton and Borussia Dortmund since he first broke onto the scene in February of last year but Bayern Munich are new to the party, prompting me to wonder if we should just call off talk of speculation and simply assume that any club with a gap at right-back and a few brain-cells between them will be actively interested in landing the Croydon boy.
His tackling and interception stats are simply mind-boggling for a player of his age and experience, hinting that he has the potential to reach the very top of the game if given time to progress at a natural pace. The fact that he is still relatively new to the discipline of defending having originally been a winger makes his rise to prominence all the more astounding.
Bayern regularly use 24-year-old Joshua Kimmich on the right-hand side of defence, indeed they did so at Anfield last night but below the German, they’re not exactly blessed with huge depth in the position. Brazilian Rafinha is more than capable of playing there but at 33 and with just 6 Bundesliga starts to his name this season, it would be no surprise to see the title-chasers look for reinforcements over the summer months.
Wan-Bissaka is under a long-term contract in SE25 and seemingly remains extremely happy with things at the club. It’s easy to assume that he’d jump at the chance to move to a club of Munich’s size given a sniff but he need only look towards teammate Wilfried Zaha as an example of what can happen when you leave Selhurst Park before you’re truly ready for the culture shock.
