VIDEO: Watch Schlupp & Meyer’s Goals Against Doncaster

Crystal Palace ran out comfortable 2-0 winners over Doncaster Rovers yesterday afternoon, with goals from Jeffrey Schlupp and Max Meyer seeing them reach the FA Cup quarter-finals for the second time in three years.

On paper, the tie looked to have all the makings of a giant killing but to the credit of Roy Hodgson’s men, they dealt with the League One promotion chasers in professional fashion, scoring early, adding another on the stoke of half-time and seeing out the second half with little to no incident to speak of.

The opening goal of the afternoon came from Jeffrey Schlupp who is enjoying the very definition of a purple patch in Palace colours of late. The midfielder got hold of the ball on the left-hand side, drove into the penalty area and saw his shot deflected as it made its way into the bottom corner of the hosts’ net.

There was a real effort from Grant McCann’s men to draw level but following some extremely neat build-up play from Luka Milivojevic and Andros Townsend, German International Max Meyer was able to net his second goal for the club, heading home from close-range just before Mike Dean called time on the opening 45 minutes.

The second half was played out at a rather controlled pace with Palace seemingly happy to sit on their two-goal lead and Doncaster struggling to muster much coherence in their attacking efforts. They took a few potshots at Hennessey’s goal but never truly tested the Welshman, making for a remarkably calm end to a day which many had expected to be a bit hair-raising for the boys from SE25.

The memory of the 2016 final still feels incredibly raw but it doesn’t stop the excitement building this time around. With the likes of Swansea, Watford, Brighton and Millwall all alongside us in the last eight, there is a very good chance of another Wembley appearance for the boys in red and blue. Roll on the quarters!

Schlupp sprung a surprise with the first while as a team move the second goal was different class with Townend and Luca linking beautifully and Meyer ghosting in on the far post. So rare to see us work a move like that with such ruthless precision and speed of thought and caught Donny with their pants down thinking about halftime, Sort of thing top 4 sides do to us
