Crystal Palace have been given a sizeable fitness boost with the news that Scott Dann is now 100% ready to step back into first-team action after an injury which has kept him for almost a full calendar year.
The former Blackburn Rovers damaged his knee severely when the Eagles faced off against Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City on New Year’s Eve of 2017 but after a period of extensive rehabilitation, it sounds as though the centre-back is desperate to return to action as soon as possible.
Whilst many supporters were unsure of Dann’s true progress, he revealed on Monday that his continued participation in U23 matches was just a vehicle to keep his match fitness up, having not kicked a ball for the first-team in 12 months. Initially, his path back into action was being blocked by the partnership James Tomkins and Mamadou Sakho have built in the middle of the Palace back-four but with the ex-Hammer having picked up his fifth booking on the season against his former employers last weekend, there’s every chance that Dann will take up residence on the Selhurst bench for the visit of Leicester this Saturday.
It’s been a long road back for the 31-year-old but it now seems as though there’s genuine light at the end of the tunnel. I’m sure he’ll get a hero’s welcome as and when he does return to the side.
