Manchester United have been given a fresh injury scare ahead of next Saturday’s home game against Crystal Palace, with England star Marcus Rashford hobbling off in the Three Lions’ 2-1 victory over Croatia at Wembley on Sunday.
Having started the game, the 21-year-old was arguably England’s best player whilst he was on the pitch but it was only after his departure that Gareth Southgate‘s men really got going, with goals from Jesse Lingard and Harry Kane securing a come-from-behind win which saw us top the group and relegate Croatia simultaneously.
The injury will have to be assessed over the coming days but given how the United academy graduate was walking when making his way down the Wembley tunnel yesterday afternoon, you’d assume there’s a fair chance he’ll be ruled out in five days’ time.
It’s a blow which comes alongside a number of other injury concerns for Jose Mourinho’s Reds, with Paul Pogba and Anthony Martial both withdrawing from the French squad at the start of the international break with knocks, Romelu Lukaku heading back to Manchester on Friday with a hamstring issue and Victor Lindelof leaving Sweden’s clash against Russia last Friday at half-time.
Given the poor form Roy Hodgson’s Eagles have been in of late they’ll need all the help they can get against United this weekend but with the likes of Benteke, Wickham, Zaha and Wan-Bissaka all currently going through injury problems of their own, we’ll have to keep our fingers firmly crossed for good news coming out of the gaffer’s press conference on Thursday.
Should we pull off an upset at the Theatre of Dreams, it’ll be one of the sweetest and well timed victories since our return to the Premier League in 2013.
We live in hope.
