Speculation Over Palace’s Porto Transfer Target Continues To Heat Up

Over the last few weeks it’s become pretty clear that Crystal Palace are keeping close tabs on one or more F.C. Porto players ahead of the January transfer window and this weekend has proven to be no exception, with scouts yet again present at the Portuguese club’s game at home to Braga.

Ever since the stories first emerged, Hector Herrera has been touted as the man most likely to be the object of our affections, given his pedigree both internationally and domestically, alongside the fact that his contract is soon to come to an end. Obviously, with a player of his reputation, Palace would be far from the only suitors but even so, it’s made sense for writers to link us with a move for the 28-year-old Mexican.

Whilst I would be far from against the idea of landing Héctor, there are plenty of other talented players on the books at Porto, leading me to wonder if the club have three or four different potential targets in mind from week to week. Saturday’s clash saw the likes of Militão and Felipe perform well at the heart of their defence, Pereira, Brahimi and Corona do well in the midfield and Soares grab the winning goal at the head of the side.

It is no secret that Palace are desperately in need of a natural finisher ahead of the January transfer window and whilst taking punts on players from Portugal may not be the most foolproof idea in the world, it’s one I wouldn’t write off immediately. With the likes of Aboubakar, Marega, Otávio and Soares all looking dangerous in front of goal, we may well be preparing an offer. Whether or not the players would be open to a move is another matter entirely.

Whatever way you slice it, Palace are undoubtedly resting a raid on the Portuguese giants in the next couple of months, now it’s just a waiting game to discover who exactly we’ve been keeping an eye on.
