REPORT: Arsenal Man Could Well Be Set For £10 Million Move To Palace

Crystal Palace are known to be in the hunt for a new striker ahead of the upcoming January window and are now being linked with a potential move for Arsenal front-man Danny Welbeck.

Having been brought to The Emirates by Arsene Wenger in 2014, the former Manchester United academy star now finds himself at something of a career crossroads. Despite getting game-time under new boss Unai Emery (he’s scored five goals in 12 appearances for the Gunners so far this term) it’s thought that he won’t be offered a new contract ahead of his current deal expiring this summer, fuelling speculation that the north Londoners will look to offload him for a fee in January.

Roy Hodgson is known to have a good working relationship with the 27-year-old from their time together in the England set-up and may therefore look to push through a move if the player himself is open to a switch. He takes a lot of stick from neutrals but I for one have always been a big fan of Welbeck; whilst he’s never been a truly prolific finisher, you get the impression that he’d thrive from being the main man in a team’s attack, free from worries over being dropped after one or two games without a goal to show for his efforts.

Whilst Danny can point towards a decent number of appearances in the red and white of Arsenal, he’s had very few starts over the last three years. Indeed, since the start of the 2015/16 season, Welbeck has started just 28 Premier League fixtures, with 35 of his appearances coming off the bench. A fact which has led to him playing fewer than 3,000 Premier League minutes over the course of the last three and a half seasons in the top flight.

With that in mind, a regular starting berth in SE25 may be just what he needs to prove his numerous doubters wrong. Given Benteke’s prolonged absence, Connor Wickham’s seemingly never-ending battle with injuries and Alexander Sørloth’s struggle to prove himself in the Premier League, Welbeck’s arrival could prove to be a huge breath of fresh air for players and fans alike at Palace.
