VIDEO: Watch All Three Of Palace’s Stunning Goals In WBA Cup Victory

Crystal Palace made extremely light work of an under-strength West Brom side at The Hawthorns to make it into the next round of the Carabao Cup last night, notching up three goals alongside their third consecutive clean sheet.

The scoring was opened in just the sixth minute when Andros Townsend took aim from all of 30 yards before powering a shot beyond the reach of Baggies keeper Boaz Myhill. Having picked up the ball inside his own half, the Palace winger teased his two covering markers with a probing run before lashing the ball home and he was far from finished there.

Roy Hodgson’s side dominated the vast majority of the contest and although only one goal to the good, never truly looked like conceding an equaliser with summer signing Vicente Guaita in between the sticks. Thankfully, we only had to wait until the 75th minute for the tie to be effectively ended as a contest, thanks to the right boot of Patrick van Aanholt.

The full-back took control of the ball on the edge of the West Brom penalty area before making space for himself and arrowing a powerful drive into the top left-hand corner of the hosts’ net, sending the Palace fans situated just behind it into a state of delirium.

The two-goal cushion was no less than the Eagles deserved but the final score was to gain some further gloss in the closing minutes thanks to that man Townsend once again. Neat build-up play around the edge of the penalty area saw the ball played to his feet 18 yards from goal, prompting a jinking run which ended in him faking his marker to the floor and smashing a beautifully angled shot into the far left-hand corner of the net.

All in all, it was an impressive and remarkably comfortable triumph for the boys in red and blue. Should we manage to do the same to our opponents in the last 16, we may well start to dream of another Wembley appearance.

Andros was brilliant last night, and to fair has been solid all season. He deserved those goals and glad to see him on the scoresheet. And we won without Zaha in the team!

Oh and I think we have the best 2 full backs in the league in PVA and AWB. 🙂
