Palace safely booked their place in the third round of the Carabao Cup on Tuesday evening thanks to a 1-0 win over Swansea, leaving Roy Hodgson and co. hoping for a favourable tie next time around.
Whilst Alexander Sørloth’s 70th minute strike was enough to see the Eagles past an extremely youthful Swansea side, there were plenty of thrills and spills elsewhere in the second round on Tuesday night. West Ham came from behind to beat a spirited AFC Wimbledon at Kingsmesdow in the televised fixture, whilst there were also wins for Fulham, Bournemouth, Leicester, Southampton and Wolves from the Premier League.
There were also one or two upsets along the way with Cardiff falling 3-1 at home to Norwich and Premier League Huddersfield losing 2-0 away at recently relegated Stoke; a game with one of the most outrageous own goals you’re ever likely to see.
Tonight sees Everton take on Rotherham, Millwall playing Plymouth, Nottingham Forest welcoming Newcastle and Reading hosting Watford to complete the second round, with the next stage seeing the arrival on the Premier League’s top six.
The draw itself is scheduled to take place at 7pm on Thursday evening as part of Sky Sports “EFL Matters” show which will be broadcast live on Sky Sports Football.
I can’t pretend to have any preference over a specific opponent in the third round, with my only hope being that we are drawn at home on the night.
