Roma Man “Perplexed” Over Whether To Join Palace Or Everton

Despite Crystal Palace having a formal offer accepted for the transfer of Roma midfielder Maxime Gonalons, a report in Sunday’s Gazzetta dello Sport claims that the Frenchman is “perplexed” about his predicament, leaving the Serie A club “paralysed” in the transfer market.

As if often the case these days, Roma would like to move out one or two players before bringing fresh faces in so as not to stray outside the guidelines of Financial Fair Play but with Gonalons stalling over the offer that has been made to him by the Eagles, their own attempts to land Sevilla powerhouse Stephen N’Zonzi have also been left in a state of limbo.

Gonalons is understanbly keen to prove himself in Serie A having left Lyon (where he was something of a fan favourite) just one year ago. Sadly for him, his performances have failed to impress large swathes of the Roma faithful, leaving them to cut their losses and look for a direct replacement in the form of his countryman N’Zonzi.

The report from Gazzetta names both ourselves and Everton as the clubs who have had bids accepted for Maxime, leaving me worried that, even if he does soften his stance over a move to the UK, he’ll plump for Merseyside over SE25. On the one hand, we don’t want to spend millions of pounds on a player who isn’t committed to the club but with time running out before the transfer deadline and no replacement found for either one of Yohan Cabaye or Ruben Loftus-Cheek, things are starting to feel a little frantic for all of our supporters.

Hopefully we get a concrete answer from Gonalons before long, even if it is a no. At least then we could stop hedging our bets and move on to another midfield target with real conviction.

good report, totally agree.personally i don,t see everton being no big splash in the prem.and i thought most players want to live in london.teams,i don,t really see alot of difference in both teams.just everton have spent over 200 million to stand still.

If his not settled in Italy he wont settle in Merseyside either. London however is not far or long from France so he can nip home whenever he can easily enough 🙂

Plus we have Sakho so he has a fellow countryman to jibber jabba with.

Either way he would be a good partner for Milivojevic.

Agree, no point signing another Mandanda as uncommitted big names are useless . Everton have Guaye, Schneiderlin, Davies, McCarthey and Besic. If they got Gonalons they might sell one of the others. McCarthey is too injury prone but if we got Besic for circa £5m then that would be good business.
