It’s a story that is unlikely to please everyone but Crystal Palace are now being linked with a move for Liverpool midfielder Marko Grujić.
The majority of Eagles fans will remember the Serbian as the man who has cynically fouled both Wilfried Zaha and James Tomkins in our recent meetings with the Reds; memories which are unlikely to leave many jumping for joy at the prospect of welcoming him into the fold at Selhurst Park.
Having moved to Anfield from Red Star Belgrade for £5 million in 2016, Grujić has never really managed to establish himself in the Liverpool side, going out on loan to Cardiff in January of 2018 and helping Neil Warnock‘s men in their successful promotion chase. Now wanted by the Bluebirds ahead of their return to the top flight, it looks as though we’re readying a loan offer of our own, leaving Grujić to decide where he’d be better suited to playing during the 2018/19 season.
I’ll make no bones about it, as things stand I’m far from happy at the prospect of bringing him in. Is that pettiness on my part after the two shocking challenges he put in on our players? Without a doubt. Does that mean I can’t change my view if he comes in and does well for us? Of course not. Should he be partnered alongside Milivojevic in the heart of the Palace midfield, you’d hope their Serbian connection would count for something and whilst he may not be as exciting a prospect as Loftus-Cheek, there is no point trying to deny that the lad has a fair bit of talent to go alongside his obvious edge.
As things stand, it looks to be a straight battle between ourselves and Cardiff for the midfielder. Would you be excited to see what he could bring to our side or would you be happier letting the Bluebirds have a free run at him in the hope of securing a different target?
