Back at the start of May, we covered reports that Palace were keen on a deal for former Sunderland midfielder Yann M’Vila and now, it appears he’s back on our radar following interest from Fulham.
Thanks to the departure of Yohan Cabaye, who turned down a new deal after deciding to go and see out his playing days in Dubai, Palace fans have been actively wondering if the club are likely to look for a direct replacement, which is where M’Vila comes into the picture.
The 6’0 central midfielder is still in the prime of his career at 28 and despite a rather checkered recent past at clubs ranging Inter Milan and Rubin Kazan to Sunderland, he is still seen by many across the game as having enough raw talent to be a success in the Premier League with the right level of coaching and off-field guidance.
Admittedly, some will hold reservations about a deal being put in place, given the fall-outs he’s had with employers in the past but should he be given another shot in the English top flight with time ticking down towards his 30th birthday, you’d hope he’d be desperate to grab the opportunity with both hands.
Whilst Fulham’s rumoured interest should be an obvious concern for us, the loss of Cabaye coupled up with Hodgson’s vast experience should represent a relatively attractive prospect for a player with M’Vila’s attributes. Currently on the books at Saint-Etienne, I have no doubt about the fact that he’d jump at the chance of a move and if we’re quick enough, Palace may just be the perfect fit for a man who appears to be the very definition of a rough diamond.
Of course, Ruben Loftus-Cheek remains a key target for us this summer but even if we do manage to pull off a deal for the Chelsea man, the hole created by Cabaye’s departure will still be in need of filling. Plenty have suggested we can get by next season without sourcing a like for like replacement for Yohan but I’m not so sure, with the aforementioned Saint Etienne man looking like a more and more feasible target by the day.
If there is any further movement on this, I’ll do my best to inform you straightaway.
