Over the last week or so, Crystal Palace have been heavily linked with a summer move for Liverpool frontman Danny Ings but in the last 48 hours, reports have emerged from Turkey to suggest that Fenerbache may look to jump ahead of us in the race for the 25-year-old.
Despite Ings’ current boss Jurgen Klopp being extremely keen to keep hold of him ahead of the 2018/19 season, it seems the former Burnley man has made the decision to leave in search of regular first-team starts, having struggled to break into the Reds’ first-team last term.
Admittedly, two long-term injuries have played a major role in halting the striker’s progress under Klopp but with the likes of Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane already ahead of him in the pecking order on Merseyside, you can see why he is keen not waste any more time in his bid to prove that he is still a Premier League calibre frontman.
Initially, there had been plenty of talk about him making a return to Burnley, who he left when making the switch to Liverpool back in 2015 but following on from the initial rumours, it now looks as though Sean Dyche will move for relegated West Brom man Jay Rodriguez instead.
Sadly for Palace, that doesn’t mean we’ll have a free run at Danny, with Southampton also being heavily linked alongside the Turkish giants mentioned at the head of the page. Whilst some may feel as though Fenerbache’s interest is a bolt from the blue, it’s worth noting that former Liverpool Director of Football Damien Comolli is now fulfilling the same role for the Istanbul outfit, explaining why their interest is there in an instant.
Whether or not Ings and his family are open to the idea of upping sticks and moving to Turkey remains to be seen but we now at least know where the source of their interest springs from.
Would you go all out to land the Liverpool man or do you feel he’s a little too much of a risk giving the injury trouble he’s had in the past?
