The last week has seen Newcastle United being constantly linked with a move for Crystal Palace winger Andros Townsend but with the Eagles believed to be playing hardball over their valuation of the former Magpie, vast swathes of the Toon Army are imploring the club to push ahead with a deal for Kenedy instead.
The 22-year-old Brazilian moved to the North East on loan from Chelsea back in January, going on to play 13 times for Rafa Benitez’s men before heading back to Cobham at the end of the campaign but given his impressive displays in black and it seems as though a sizeable chunk of their fan-base would love to see him return in a permanent capacity.
Kenedy is the future, Townsend is the past

This would be great. They should forget the Townsend deal and focus on Kennedy. https://t.co/HzuPMVPndP

Would have Kennedy every day of the week over Townsend. Especially if they’re both £20m

If we have 20 million to bid then as much as I like Townsend I think it would be better spent on Kennedy.

Townsend jumped ship for his on personal gain & would rather play for pardew then Rafa,Kennedy bags more potential & would make club more money in long term

Why would you pick Townsend over Kenedy. 🤔
— Sarah (@ii_Loveyou_x) June 16, 2018
Do we go for Kenedy who’s an incredible talent, wants to be at #NUFC & helped keep us up last season OR Townsend who deserted us straight after relegation for Crystal Palace 🤔
Simple answer – KENEDY!! 🇧🇷

Having grabbed an assist for a Jamaal Lascelles goal on his debut, Kenedy also managed to bag a brace of goals for himself in a 3-0 win against Southampton in March, prompting many to drool over the prospect of him making his stay on Tyneside a permanent one, given his age and obvious scope for further improvement in years to come.
Whilst many Geordies were mightily impressed by Townsend during his stint with them back in early 2016, the fact that he was so quick to jump ship following their relegation from the Premier League has left many feeling unenthusiastic over the prospect of a reunion this summer. Four years Kenedy’s senior and seemingly happy to remain in south London, it’s a potential move which has far more potential hurdles to overcome for sure.
It is worth highlighting that the two men do operate on opposite flanks by nature, opening up the possibility of deals being done for both but with Mike Ashley’s reputation in the transfer market, I don’t think many within the Newcastle fan-base will be holding out hope of a double swoop ahead of the 2018/19 season.
With Palace having turned down Newcastle’s initial offer (reported to be £18 million) there have been some suggestions in the press that they are hopeful of a bidding war taking place but I would imagine most behind the scenes are just keen to see Benitez and co. giving up in their pursuit of the Tottenham academy graduate. Whilst he may have the same talismanic reputation as Wilfried Zaha, Andros has proved pivotal to Roy Hodgson’s tactical set up since the boss arrived at Selhurst Park, a fact which suggests he’ll be desperate to keep hold of him ahead of the new season.
