A week or so ago, rumours were swirling about a possible move back to France for Yohan Cabaye ahead of the imminent expiry of his contract with Crystal Palace but now, it’s looking more and more likely that the former PSG man will put pen to paper on a new deal with the Eagles in the coming days.
Having been spotted chatting to members of the Marseille squad ahead of their Europa League Final last Wednesday, plenty of the Eagles faithful had begun to hear the worst but after it was revealed that Yohan was simply there as a guest of his friend Sebastien Perez and not as part of the travelling Marseille party, pulses began to return to their normal rate.
Soon after that, reports in French sporting newspaper L’Equipe suggested that Cabaye and his representatives were all set to meet with the Palace hierarchy this week, in an attempt to iron out fresh terms which will enable the central midfielder to stay in London. The man himself went on record as saying he loved the club and his life in the capital following the final game of the season against West Brom and this news seemed to tally with those sentiments.
Now, there has been a further report in L’Equipe, which, whilst analysing potential summer targets for Marseille, reiterates the view that Yohan “should stay at Palace”, a line which hints at positive progress in relation to contract negotiations between the 32-year-old’s agent and the club’s board. Whether or not the two parties have got down to the nuts and bolts of the deal (most pertinently the expected drop in Cabaye’s weekly wage) is still unknown but either way, it’s good to hear so many positive noises in relation to a possible new contract for the much loved Frenchman.
