QUOTES: Steve Parish Has Big Plans For Palace During The Transfer Window

2 Posted by - May 10, 2018 - News

The last couple of transfer windows have left plenty of Palace fans fearing another last-minute free-for-all over the summer but whilst speaking to the press recently, club chairman Steve Parish went out of his way to reassure fans that he, Dougie Freedman and the rest of the backroom team have learnt from their mistakes in recent years.

With an early window looming on the horizon tanks to the imminent World Cup, clubs will need to get to work incredibly quickly if they are to land all of their targets ahead of the 2018/19 campaign and whilst Parish is right to highlight the large sums we’ve splashed out over the last couple of years, he sounds determined to ensure that Roy Hodgson is rewarded for the stunning job he’s pulled off since stepping into the Selhurst Park dugout last September.

Having brought in Frank de Boer in a botched attempt to alter the “Palace way” of playing, Steve appears happy to admit that he and the club have been bailed out by the arrival of Roy Hodgson and his coaching staff. Somehow, the former England gaffer has taken us to the verge of a top-half finish with one game left to play, making it all the more important that his wishes are listened to and implemented between now and August.

Despite suffering an incredibly high number of injuries and bringing in no first-team regulars during the January transfer window, Roy has got us playing what is arguably the best football we’ve managed since making our way back into the Premier League in 2013. With that in mind, it’s hard not to get excited at the thought of what next season may bring, once the boss has had a full pre-season and a summer window, in which to further enforce his tactical beliefs and shape the playing squad in his image.

Keeping a manager in place over the course of an entire summer will feel like an achievement in itself after what we’ve been through as a club in recent years, doing so whilst securing our top targets in the transfer market without waiting until the final moments will make it feel as though all of our Christmases have come at once.

Let’s hope the plans that have been put in place behind the scenes come to fruition well in advance of Deadline Day this time around.

Agree totally, I have been a fan since 1970 when at 6 yrs I got to see my first game. Parish has over last few seasons left it to late to get the right people in. I say let Roy have his picks, release the ones who not going to play next season and keep the best of the best. Roy was brought in to save us now let him do his best and improve us, if we get to tenth we could be in Europa league and keep our main 5-6 players.

Still doesn’t fill me with confidence that it’s taking so many transfer windows for him to say we’ve now learnt from our mistakes.

It’s got to sink in sooner or later, Gordon.

Parish can’t say he and the board haven’t had enough experience or practice in transfers so this time they HAVE to get it right .. no more excuses we can’t keep messing up and hoping someone will save us

I’m quietly confident. That said, I felt the same last May too.

Fully expecting a deadline day bid for Ronnow to be rejected as Brondby have no time to find a replacement.

Hope Parish remembers the window is shutting earlier from next season onwards. Doing the business on August 28th instead of 30th will be too late. Needs to be done before World Cup to avoid price inflation and last minute flusters due to early window closure.

Ronnow has already signed for Eintracht Frankfurt, JFB.
