Since signing for Crystal Palace back in January of 2017, Serbian central midfielder Luka Milivojevic has become the very definition of a fan-favourite at Selhurst Park and now, the former Olympiakos man has put any speculation regarding a potential move away to be bed in emphatic fashion.
Whilst the interview in question saw Luka being primarily quizzed about the change in fortunes he and his teammates have enjoyed under the guidance of Roy Hodgson, the interviewer managed to sneak in one or two leading comments about the future of both Wilfried Zaha and Milivojevic himself.
Admittedly, the prospect of a move away is not something that Luka has ever chosen to openly discuss but even so, it’s great to hear that the man with the armband is happy and committed to the cause in SE25 for the foreseeable future, given the major role he plays for us from week to week.
Currently sitting alone at the top of Palace’s scoring chart for the 2017/18 season thanks in large part to his proficiency from the penalty spot, it’s worth highlighting that Milivojevic offers far more to the Palace set-up than just his skills with a dead ball. A natural leader and a fiercely combative presence in the centre of midfield, he has always felt like an on-field general for Roy Hodgson.
Happy to take responsibility for the team in the most stressful of moments, his decision to hand the ball to Christian Benteke in the final moments of our 5-0 win over Leicester City last weekend highlighted his moral qualities in the perfect manner.
I’ve said this on more than one occasion in the past but after the loss of such a massive character in Mile Jedinak, it’s a minor miracle that we’ve managed to find such a perfect replacement in the shape of the Milivojevic. Let’s hope this is just the start of what is already a blossoming relationship.
