Ruben Loftus-Cheek played a starring role in Crystal Palace’s 5-0 demolition of Leicester City on Saturday, prompting dozens of Chelsea fans to implore those behind the scenes at Stamford Bridge to ensure that the 22-year-old remains on their books over the summer.
Having seen both Mohammed Salah and Kevin De Bruyne hit the headlines after leaving in recent years, it’s no surprise to see so many Chelsea supporters actively discussing their fears over seeing the same scenario play out with the still young Loftus-Cheek.
For all the faith the Blues hierarchy have shown in him over the years, this season is the first in which he’s been afforded the opportunity to play regular first-team football, leading me to feel as though he’ll seek assurances over game-time with the 2016/17 champions before putting to bed all hope of signing a permanent deal in SE25.
After his headline-grabbing performances for England earlier this term, plenty of pundits are tipping the midfield man for a place in Gareth Southgate’s squad for the upcoming World Cup; a stage upon which I’m sure he would shine. Obviously, if he is to make it to Russia and show those across the planet what he’s capable of, our chances of securing his signature on a permanent basis would suffer but for now, it’s just great to have him on board as a member of Roy Hodgson’s 25-man cohort.
Admittedly, injuries have put a halt to Ruben gathering any true momentum for us this season but in the last few weeks he has proven his worth to the side in eyebrow-raising fashion. Regardless of what happens with England this summer, he’s a player who deserves to be starting in the Premier League from week to week once the new season gets underway and if his current employers can’t guarantee him that, you can be absolutely sure everyone at Selhurst Park will welcome him with open arms.
Here’s just a tiny selection of Chelsea fans’ comments on Loftus-Cheek…

Things I've learned today (or should I say about 6 months ago). Ruben Loftus Cheek is a much better player than Bakayoko. We could have saved that £75m on Baka & Drinkwater and kept RLC. But you already knew that. Shame Chelsea didn't.
