Ask any Palace fan who was lucky enough to be at Selhurst Park for Crystal Palace’s 3-2 win over Brighton last Saturday and they’ll tell you that the atmosphere the home fans created was up there with the best that has been heard at the stadium in recent memory.
Plenty of neutrals may dismiss Palace’s rivalry with the Seagulls as false but for the fans who are a part of it, there is nothing bigger. Having already faced them twice in the 2017/18 campaign, (once in the league and once in the FA Cup) there was no doubt in the home fans’ minds that the third and final meeting between us was all set up to be the biggest and thankfully, our players delivered when the pressure was on.
Backed by incessant noise from all but the small section of the Arthur Wait Stand where Brighton’s fans were held, Roy Hodgson’s men raced into a 3-1 lead thanks to goals from Wilfried Zaha (x2) and James Tomkins before José Izquierdo’s low effort from the edge of the box set up an extremely nervy second half for everyone of a red and blue persuasion.
After losing an extremely late goal to Bournemouth just a week before it was particularly sweet to see the lads hang on for what was a massive three points against Chris Hughton and co.; a task no doubt made a little easier by the constant vocal backing given to the side by the home fans.
It’s easy for supporters to talk themselves up but time and again, our players and those in the press publicly recognise the difference we make, with the videos attached just below giving an insight into the atmosphere we created on Saturday. Of course, the quality of the players and coaching staff will always be the most important factor in securing results from week to week but there is no doubt in my mind that we have a vital role to play too.
One more win should keep us up for another year, let’s do our best to keep this momentum going.

Selhurst Park forever criticised by all away fans…
It’s a shithole, it’s a dive it’s one of the worst stadiums out they’re they say…
Well you may have these shiny, big capacity fandangled stadiums but you’ll never have our atmosphere…#12thman
