Crystal Palace fans are yet to see January signing Jarek Jach kick a ball for the first-team but for the man who uncovered him from the Polish top flight is still backing the defender to have a long and fruitful career in the Premier League.
Whilst most football fans are incredibly understanding about the need for players to adjust gradually to the pace and style of a new league, the fact that the Eagles have endured something of a defensive crisis in the months since Jach was brought in and still not felt it appropriate to use him has raised a fair few eyebrows.
It would be easy to assume that the Pole was just a gamble that hasn’t paid off but for Omar Yabroudi, the man who recommended the 23-year-old to Palace, this is just a step along the path that will eventually see Jarek become a top flight regular.
I dare say plenty of you are looking at Omar and wondering why he’s qualified to talk on the subject but unbeknown to many, he’s actually the man who unearthed Yannick Bolasie for the Eagles back in 2012. A trusted confidante of Technical Director Dougie Freedman, Yabroudi returned for a second stint with the club when the Scotsman moved back onto our payroll last year and is happy to put his neck on the line in relation to Jach’s scope for future improvement.
Omar himself describes the Polish international as a “late bloomer” in the interview attached above, suggesting that he’ll take a while to get used to life in the UK. Perhaps he was always purchased with a view to being used fully from the start of next season but without that being communicated to the club’s fan-base, you can understand why so many have been left baffled by the big man’s exclusion from the side.
Following on from Roy Hodgson’s press conference yesterday, we know that James Tomkins is likely to miss out at the heart of our back four with an injury, leaving supporters unsure over who we will see partnering Mamadou Sakho in the centre of defence. Back in February, many of us would have expected Jach to get the nod but now, it’s probably best to write off the Jarek’s chances of starting regularly until August.
