Everton Star Throws A Blatant Dig At Palace In The Press

Crystal Palace fans were thankful for the presence of Cenk Tosun in Everton’s line-up against Stoke last weekend, given the brace he bagged to keep the Potters stuck in the bottom three but not for the first time, the striker has taken a rather blatant dig at us in the press.

If you were following the ups and downs of our transfer dealings over the summer, you’ll likely remember that Tosun was heavily linked with a move to Selhurst Park from Besiktas, only for it to fail at the final hurdle with time running out. By Cenk’s own admission, he was more than happy to put pen to paper on a contract at the time but was instead forced to stay in Turkey until the turn of the year.

With Sam Allardyce having been in charge of the club until May of 2017, it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to work out that he and Sammy Lee set the wheels in motion over Tosun’s subsequent move to Everton as soon as they stepped foot on Merseyside. I dare say the Toffees’ scouts were suitably impressed by the front-man’s purple patch of goalscoring form in the Champions League for Besiktas and sanctioned a bid as a result but even so, the constant verbal potshots from the man himself leave a rather bitter taste in the mouth.

I doubt that even the most ardent of Palace fans would claim that we are a club on a par with Everton in terms of status but even so, there is no reason for Tosun to continually celebrate the fact that he dodged a move to Selhurst Park in the press. In many ways, his path to Goodison Park was paved by our scouting team, altering the soon-to-be Everton gaffer to his existence before the 2017-18 campaign had even got underway and planting a seed that would be watered in due time.

I was over the moon to see his name pop up twice in the goalscorer’s column on Saturday afternoon but quite why he feels the need to keep on referencing us in a disparaging manner is beyond me.

The press like to make up a story to sell their existence. Mr Moshiri who lives in Monaco and had witnessed Tosun scoring against one of the teams he watches was also instrumental in bringing in Tosun.
You should note that the Sams were reluctant to play him at first because of the step up from the Turkish league to the EPL. Tosun is also a fox in the box but whether he can create a goal is still a question and his biggest worth for me would be as a partner striker.

A thought did occur. I think when Everton next visit, hopefully next season and especially if he is still thanking his lucky stars that Mr Tosun should be greeted with some ‘welcome to hell banners’ just to show what a horrible place he’s come to.
