It had looked as though Crystal Palace’s move for Getafe goalkeeper Vicente Guaita was dead in the water last week but now Spanish news outlet Cadena Ser are reporting that the deal is back on.

Having initially argued with the Spanish outfit over the size of the fee after believing that €4 million euros would be enough to secure the stopper’s signature, the above article claims that Palace are now ready and willing to stump up Guaita’s full release clause of €8 million.
Whilst Vicente himself has seemingly been desperate to make the move to SE25 since the start of the January window, most Palace fans had resigned themselves to a stalemate being reached by the two clubs but supposedly, over the last day or so, our take on the matter has changed rather dramatically.
Although €8 million (£7,025,991 if you’re interested in the current exchange rate as of 06:14 today) may seem like a lot of money for a 31-year-old, goalkeepers are far more capable of playing on until their late thirties than their outfield teammates, just look at Julian Speroni for proof of that. In Guaita’s case specifically, he has proven over the years to be a very effective operator in between the sticks, working wonders with Getafe after a long-term association with Valencia; we certainly wouldn’t be signing a dud if the move is finalised in the coming days.
Fans are likely to be a tad worried about how the new man would settle in after seeing Steve Mandanda try and fail to adapt to life in SE25 when joining from Marseille in the summer of 2016, but you’d like to think that Roy and the coaching staff would ensure that Vicente was welcomed with open arms by everyone at the club this time around.
I’ll admit that I had mentally closed the poor on the possibility of Guaita ever becoming a Palace player so this is an extremely pleasant surprise to wake up to.
