Over the festive period, thanks to the incredible generosity of more than 200 separate people, HLTCO’s Patreon page tipped over the $600 a month mark, meaning that I am now able to devote one full working day a week to running the site. It’s no exaggeration when I tell you that this really is a dream come true for me.
Having started as nothing more than a hobby following my degree in Sport Journalism at the University of Brighton, I am stunned to see how big it has now become. In 2017, I was able to generate an astounding 977,000 views (a record high) and will do everything I can to ensure that I smash through the 1,000,000 view barrier in 2018.
As a consequence of people’s donations or “pledges” as Patreon like to call them, I am now in a position to publish nine articles plus a round-up every single Monday, alongside the regular level of coverage on every other day of the week. Of course, I’d love to hit the next target of $1,200 as soon as possible and start offering the same thing on Tuesdays too but for now, I just want to express my gratitude towards everyone who has put their hands into their pockets and put me into such an amazing position.
Hopefully you enjoy visiting the site and would like to see more and more content being produced as time goes by, with every single penny that people can spare making a massive difference to me in the long-term. That said, I feel it’s important to say that no content will ever be put behind a paywall and no adverts will ever appear on HLTCO, making any support you as a reader can give me all the more important.
2017 has been an incredibly big year for HLTCO and I’m hopeful of 2018 being even better. Let’s hope Roy and the boys keep on producing between now and May.
