Yannick Bolasie may have left Crystal Palace for Everton at the start of last season but even now, the DR Congo international has a huge soft spot for the Eagles, as the video attached here proves.
The 28-year-old winger has been sidelined since December 2016, when he picked up a cruciate ligament injury against Manchester United. The lengthy rehabilitation process had led plenty of Toffees fans to openly wonder if he’d be the same player as the one they signed when he returns to regular first-team action, not that the man himself seems too concerned.
With Ronald Koeman having departed Goodison Park in the early stages of this campaign, Bolasie will be welcomed back into the fold by former Palace boss Sam Allardyce, who has overseen a mini revival in form since taking up the reins on Merseyside a few weeks ago. Whilst he’s been able to eek out victories without playing eye-catchingly well so far, the prospect of utilising Bolasie’s flair and trickery on the flank is sure to excite him Big Sam as he looks to catapult his new side up the Premier League table.
Predictably, Bolasie has been incredibly active on social media in recent months, getting support from Everton and Palace fans alike as he battled back to full fitness, leaving him keen to thank both sets of fans for their backing via his Instagram account. I’ll make no secret of the fact that I thought badly of Yala in the immediate aftermath of his departure but soon after, I warmed to him once again, given his irrepressibly happy approach to football and all that it represents on these shores.
Long-term injuries like the one Yannick has been struggling with aren’t something you’d wish on any player and whilst I don’t want to see him doing anything which negatively impacts upon us in the coming months, I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t happy to have him back in the game.
Who knows, he may even end up back in SE25 before long if the cards fall favourably. Stranger things have happened…
