Man United Star Out & Liverpool Man In For CPFC In January?

Liverpool striker Danny Ings is being courted by at least four Premier League clubs (including Crystal Palace) ahead of the transfer window reopening in January. Frustratingly for the Eagles, a potential deal to bring him in is already being made complicated.

Despite the former Burnley man’s lack of game-time at Anfield, it appears as though Jurgen Klopp is keen not to lose him on a permanent basis, alerting the likes of Newcastle, Stoke, Brighton and ourselves to the possibility of taking him on until May.

Sadly for Roy Hodgson, clubs are unable to have more than two Premier League loan players on their books at once, meaning one of Ruben Loftus-Cheek or Timothy Fosu-Mensah would be forced to make way in the New Year.

Were Hodgson to be forced into a decision over the pair, I’m absolutely certain he’d choose to send Manchester United’s Dutchman back to Old Trafford prematurely and keep hold of Ruben, given the differing fortunes they’ve had with us since the gaffer took up residence in the Selhurst Park dugout.

Whilst Fosu-Mensah is a genuinely talented defender, the club do have a level of cover in his position which we simply aren’t blessed with at the head of the side. Jose Mourinho and his officials are said to be “furious” with the manner in which Tim has been sidelined in SE25 but with Joel Ward playing out of his skin in recent weeks, I can fully understand why Roy is reluctant to drop him and favour a 19-year-old loanee.

Should Liverpool and Ings wait long enough into the window for Palace to resolve the Fosu-Mensah conundrum, I genuinely feel as though it would be a good fit for all parties. Danny offers a genuine alternative to the aerial threat posed by Christian Benteke and is a very different prospect to the (fingers crossed) soon to return frame of Connor Wickham.

Said by Jurgen Klopp to be extremely fit once again, the thought of Ings hitting the ground running and forming a prolific little and large partnership with Benteke is mouthwatering to say the least.

Would you like to see the club make it happen?

Not being funny but Ings doesn’t offer the club anything long term and doesn’t fit with what I see as a strength of Palace bringing young talent through. There is plenty of young talent out there, not all of it at Chelsea and Man City. Anyone who watched England in the Under 20s would have seen players that are not English but had plenty of talent. The scouts should be giving Roy more options than players other clubs don’t want.

I’d worry about how injury prone he seems to be.
