Following Steve Parish’s claim that Crystal Palace are all set to make a “major announcement” regarding the future of our stadium before Christmas, Eagles fans have everywhere have been debating what we’re likely to see when the club’s plans are revealed. We have been here before of course, as this detailed piece from the Croydon Advertiser’s Mark Ritson highlights brilliantly.
Ever since first taking residence in the Selhurst Park boardroom, Steve Parish and his fellow directors have been desperate to give Palace fans a home that they can be truly proud having grown weary of false promises from those who had preceded them. Of course, their original plan all the way back in 2011 revolved around a proposed relocation to a new purpose-built arena in Crystal Palace but after running into all manner of hurdles, the plans were shelved in favour of finding a solution on the current site.
In the years that have followed, supporters have been drip-fed information on a sporadic basis, leaving everything wondering when or indeed if the club will ever get the chance to make significant alterations to Selhurst Park or be forced to watch on as it falls into disrepair in front of our eyes.
Luckily, Parish’s comments at Boxpark’s “Palace Takeover” on Tuesday evening point towards some light at the end of the tunnel, with the chairman having consistently said that he wouldn’t reveal concrete plans relating to the ground’s redevelopment until we could actually make them a reality.
As you would expect, hundreds if not thousands of Palace fans will remain highly sceptical until ground is broken on any new project but after years of waiting for some encouragement on the subject, I for one am keen to cast my eye over what the chairman has got lined up.
The smart money suggests that a new Main Stand is in the offing but as the piece attached above proves, it pays not to assume anything when it comes to the redevelopment of Selhurst Park.
