TWEETS: Arsenal Fans Fume At The Thought Of Signing Zaha – Ignorance Is Bliss

Having spent much of the last 18 months being linked with a move to Tottenham Hotspur, it now looks as though Wilfried Zaha is attracting interest from Arsenal, with their fans horrified at the very thought of it.

With Alexis Sanchez seemingly on his way out of the door at The Emirates, Arsene Wenger is in desperate need of a replacement, leading countless media outlets to speculate that he’ll make a move for Palace winger Zaha at the earliest opportunity. Whilst our fans are used to talk of Wilfried moving on, the Arsenal faithful have never been seriously linked with a swoop for him in the past and it seems as though the majority of them are far from pleased.

Whilst I’m more than happy for Arsenal’s supporters to put their board off making a move for Zaha, I have to admit that the arrogance most neutral onlookers show towards him does grate on me. At 25, he’s still some way off reaching the peak of his powers and yet, thousands across the globe have decided to buy into loosely defined stereotypes created by the press rather than looking themselves into what he brings to any side he’s a part of.

Although our status as a Premier League club is looking flimsy at best right now, I would like to think that Wilfried will stay with us next season, if we do somehow manage to drag ourselves out of the bottom three by mid-May. Admittedly, we aren’t the most glamorous of clubs but he need only look at the reaction to his possible arrival amongst Arsenal supporters to be reminded of the horrible spell he endured at Manchester United four years ago.

It’s a cliche, but no fan-base is going to love Wilfried Zaha like we do. Having come through our academy, there’s always been a special bond between him and the club; a connection that, based on the opinions expressed just below, he’d never enjoy at The Emirates.

(Note: This is just a small number of the negative responses.)

Wilf signed a 5 year deal, not sure of release clauses but unless one is activated just cannot see parish letting him go. Even if they offered £30m plus Wilshere just not going to happen.

I agree with you House of Grouse, in the summer perhaps but definitely not in January.

Arsenal fans were pretty much the same about Ian Wright in 91. Taking a player from Palace was below them then as well. 221 appearances later and 128 goals and most of them have wiped his Palace years from their memory.

Having said that, their ignorance may help us out.

It’s a comment well worth making MrF. How quickly they forget, eh?
