This Gabby Logan Piece On Wilfried Zaha Is Absolutely Fantastic

It’s looking quite likely that Wilfried Zaha will make his long-awaited return to the Crystal Palace side when they welcome Chelsea to Selhurst Park this Saturday and as you can from the opinion piece attached just below from Gabby Logan, the south London native is in extremely good spirits ahead of the game.

If you ask the majority of neutral football fans for their opinion of Zaha, you’re bound to get a vastly different response from the one you could expect when quizzing the Palace faithful. For reasons well outside of the winger’s control, his personality has been typecast by a mainstream press who were happy to pick up and run with the line fed to them by Manchester United when Wilfried was on the Reds’ books.

Luckily, Gabby Logan has shown the maturity and depth of feeling necessary to look beyond the widespread stereotypes and felt able to drill down into the true nature of Zaha’s personality. As a man who has grown up under the scrutiny of the nation’s spotlight, he is still plagued by a degree of uncertainty but also gives the impression of someone who does their best work when feeling as though his fellow players and the club’s fans are fully behind him.

Having run this website for close to seven years now, I’ve had the privilege of documenting the wide array of peaks and troughs Wilf has gone through since first breaking into the Palace first-team as a wire-legged teenager. His is a journey that has been far from straightforward on both a professional and personal level but when speaking to Gabby, he clearly gave her the impression that Crystal Palace FC is the perfect place for him to flourish and for that, I can’t help but love him.

Our talisman, we are lost as a team without him. Best player without a doubt to have ever put on the red and blue. I am a massive fan in case you hadn’t guessed already.?

Best player ever? That’s a huge shout. One that I’m always worried of getting shouted down over given my age… (I’m 28).

I’m 53 and he’s the best I’ve seen. Lights up the crowd like no one else. Bolasie was good, but not the same outrageous ability.

I think it’s helped by his whole demeanour too. I feel he’s so perfectly connected with our club’s values.
