Brazil Legend Roberto Carlos Has Absolutely No Time For Roy Hodgson

You’d have to be pretty cold-hearted to feel no sympathy for Roy Hodgson of late. After suffering a bitter blow to his reputation with England in Euro 2016, he has now stepped in to take charge of a Crystal Palace side who look dangerously lacking in the sort of depth necessary to avoid the drop from the Premier League.

With that in mind, Roy probably won’t have been too pleased to hear that Brazilian legend Roberto Carlos, who played under him whilst at Inter Milan, has decided to savage his reputation whilst speaking to the press over the weekend.

Although plenty of England fans are always keen to paint Hodgson as a tactically inept tactician, his career to date actually highlights a wealth of experience and success over more than 40 years within the management industry. Despite this, Roberto Carlos clearly struggled when playing for the south London native, saying that their stint together “destroyed him”.

With the Eagles attempting to regroup during the international break ahead of a visit from Chelsea this Saturday, Carlos’ stinging criticism feels unnecessary to say the least, given that they worked together 22 years ago. Given the stellar career the Brazilian enjoyed in the years after playing for Inter, you’d think he might have found a way to forget the bitter feelings he once harbored towards the current Palace gaffer, if only for his own peace of mind.

Of late, it feels as though the press are loving every second of our struggle for form, seizing upon quotes like those from Roberto Carlos with genuine relish. As we speak, the club are on track for a record-low points total and whilst that prospect remains feasible, you can expect those with column inches to fill to keep their foot on our throats.
