The Single Best News Crystal Palace Fans Have Had In Weeks

From the moment Wilfried Zaha struggled out of Selhurst Park with his leg in a brace on the opening day of the season, Crystal Palace have struggled to find reasons for good cheer.

Kicked routinely by the Terriers players during their trip to SE25, the Ivory Coast international valiantly made it through to the final whistle, doing himself a degree of damage in the process. As a consequence for the winger’s bravery, he’s been missing ever since but now, with a week off from domestic matters as World Cup qualifiers take place across the globe, it looks as though the south London native is edging back towards match fitness.

Following our 4-0 defeat at the hands of Manchester United last weekend, manager Roy Hodgson had suggested that Wilf would in fact struggle to make it back in time to face Chelsea at Selhurst next weekend but as you can see from the video above, the man himself looks as though he’s raring to go after being allowed to have a ball back at his feet.

With the club rock bottom of the Premier League without a point or even a goal to our names, Zaha’s return cannot come soon enough for the vast majority of supporters. If anything, this prolonged spell without him in the starting XI has proven just how heavily we rely upon him to get us going from an attacking perspective. Whilst his talents with the ball are often jaw-dropping, his pace, movement and general fear factor create a great deal of space for our other forward players whenever we are looking to cause problems. Put quite simply, his presence is utterly essential to our success.

Although we must remember that the wide man cannot do it all himself, the mere thought of having him involved from the start against Antonio Conte’s Blues is enough to give me a glimmer of hope for the game in prospect which, after the last few weeks, shouldn’t be sniffed at.

Watch out for the moment Wilf steals Damien Delaney’s soul approximately 50 seconds into the video by the way, it’s absolutely magical.
