Tonight, Crystal Palace take on Huddersfield Town at Selhurst Park in a League Cup tie at Selhurst Park, with both Pape Souare and Mamadou Sakho in line to return to the side. For some reason, Radio Yorkshire seem to think I know what I’m talking about when it comes to the club and had me on for a little chat yesterday to preview the game in question.

Having set a record as the first top flight team in the history of English football to lose all five of our opening fixtures without scoring a goal, tonight’s clash could be looked upon as a welcome distraction or an annoyance depending on your personal perspective but for me, the inclusion of the aforementioned defensive pair shifted my general mood regarding the fixture from apathetic to intrigued in an instant.
After watching the Terriers sweep us aside with infuriating ease on the opening day of the season, I can’t pretend that I’m confident heading into the clash but with both sides expected to make changes, the general pattern of play should be noticeably different to our meeting back in August. I don’t know for sure but I would imagine Speroni, Tomkins, Milivojevic and Kaikai will all be given game-time by Roy, who is still trying to grasp the best way in which to set the team up from week to week.
As you would expect, given our respective starts to the season, the interviewer was in a far more buoyant mood than myself throughout the chat but you never know, we may end up pulling off a surprise victory, spurred on by the triumphant return of Pape and Mamadou. After a spell in which we’ve had literally no reasons to be cheerful, their presence will at least put a smile on supporters’ faces.
