The return of Dougie Freedman has given real legitimacy to the rumours linking Oliver Burke with a move to Palace in the next week or so and in the video attached just below, you can gain a feel for the sort of player we’d be getting if the Scot does indeed sign on the dotted line in the coming days.
Given the opportunity to step up to the Nottingham Forest first-team by Freedman during his time as manager at The City Ground, Burke is on record as saying he looks up to his fellow Scotsman as something of a father figure within the game. Obviously, the youngster was and may still be desperate to make a success of things with RB Leipzig but all of the noises emanating from the club suggest that they’re happy to let him move on, making a switch to Palace incredibly feasible.
He may have struggled to make a huge impact out in Germany but that shouldn’t blind you to the genuine talent and potential that still exists within the right-winger’s game. Whatever your thoughts on Freedman’s departure from SE25, it would be wrong to claim that he doesn’t know a talented player when he sees one and in Burke, he found a youngster who he felt had all the tools to go to the very top of the game.
After suffering back-to-back defeats in his first two competitive games as Crystal Palace boss, Frank de Boer will almost certainly welcome the knowledge Freedman has of the club and English football as a whole, with the possible signing of Burke just the first sign of Dougie’s influence on our transfer policy.
I’ve seen plenty of people criticising the club for making an effort to bring Burke in but the video at the top of the page shows you just what a player we’d have on our hands if we can push a deal through.
