Crystal Palace head into today’s home season opener against Huddersfield Town with just two first-team goalkeepers on their books but after Frank de Boer spoke yesterday about his desire to bring in a new stopper, rumours surrounding PSV’s Jeroen Zoet are beginning to gather real pace.
As things stand, no one is 100% sure who de Boer will opt for as the starting man against the Terriers, having used both Wayne Hennessey and Julian Speroni and different points during pre-season but after losing Steve Mandanda at the start of the summer, the Dutchman has made no secret of the fact that he’s keen to secure further competition for the current pair.
Given Zoet’s nationality, it’s easy for the press to link the Eagles with a move for him but in truth, he’s exactly the sort of man we’d need to bring in if we are intent on finding a new undisputed number to fill the goal in SE25. There will inevitably be a few who continue to pour scorn on a potential move for him but from a personal perspective, I’ll happily admit to being extremely excited by the prospect of seeing him in red and blue.
There are still three weeks of the transfer window left to go, meaning that de Boer and the Palace board have plenty of time to get a deal over the line but after a prolonged spell with little to no concrete talk over a new goalkeeper, it finally seems as though we’re set to see some visible movement in the coming days.
Are you happy at the thought of Zoet swapping the Netherlands for south Norwood, or would you rather we kept our search going for a little while longer?
