PHOTO: United’s Fosu-Mensah Pictured Training With Crystal Palace

We may still be waiting for Crystal Palace to officially announce the arrival of Timothy Fosu-Mensah on loan from Manchester United but as you can see from the link attached just below, the Dutchman is already training with the Eagles ahead of this Saturday’s game at home Huddersfield.

This photo shows Tim Fosu-Mensah, in full Palace training kit, with Frank de Boer’s first-team squad.

Plenty of people have suggested that the delay in Tim’s official unveiling as a Palace player is a consequence of Manchester United’s participation in this week’s Super Cup against Real Madrid but even so, you would hope that a club of their size and stature had the man power necessary to spin a few plates simultaneously.

What we can be sure of, is that Fosu-Mensah will be a part of de Boer’s Palace squad for the next nine months, where he will ideally be given ample game-time by the former Ajax man. Comfortable with Frank’s footballing ideology, I would suggest that the United youngster will be drafted in on the right-hand side of our back three, next to Scott Dann in the centre and Jairo Riedewald on the left but for now, that is pure speculation on my part.

Whilst plenty of the Palace faithful remain sceptical of Fosu-Mensah’s chances of making an instant impact in red and blue, the majority of Manchester United fans I have spoken to, rate the young man extremely highly, seeing this season as a potential breakout one for him away from the piercing glare of Reds boss Jose Mourinho.

There is always a hint of reluctance to be felt when willingly polishing up another club’s player for them in a loan move but given our lack of defensive depth, particularly on the right, this deal is one which appears to suit all parties for the time being.

Given the pictures attached in the link at the top of the page, you would assume an official announcement is on the way today.

Tomkins will wish he had not joined us at this rate. £10m for a defensive bench warmer and former hammers stalwart of the starting 11 is a bit of a waste. But I suppose that is the downside of selecting a manager who wants to play a different brand of football. I can see either him or Kelly leaving in the Jan window as they will not get game time.

I agree. I personally think Tomkins is better on the ball than any of our permanent CBs last season (Kelly, Dann, Damo) so it is a bit harsh to cast him aside for a loan player. TFM may be highly rated but we dont need another utility player. We need specialist RWB, ST & GK. It baffles me that none of these areas have been properly addressed. I would like to see us sign Vincent Enyema, who has been cast aside by Lille. A brilliant keeper on the cheap who will do until we can get someone long term in.

In terms of RWB, i think Punch should play there to allow Townsend to move up to the wing. I don’t think Punch is suited to being a CM in this formation and we need someone with better defensive attributes to dovetail with Loftus-Cheek.

Lastly, why has every signing this season taken forever to announce? Is the admin team really slow with the paperwork or is it the negotiators sweating the small stuff on fees/wages etc.?
