Crystal Palace officially announced the signing of Dutch defender Jairo Riedewald on a five-year contract this afternoon, with his managing agency uploading a short video interview with him to accompany the news.
The transfer has been on the cards for weeks now but given the lack of information out there regarding Riedewald's career to date, Palace fans are still incredibly thirsty for an insight into what they'll be watching with Riedewald in the side for the foreseeable future.
At just 20, the Ajax academy graduate has built a rather impressive reputation on the continent, playing a large role in the run which saw the Amsterdam outfit go all the way to the Europa League final last year and as you can see from the interview attached at the top of the page, he certainly isn't lacking in confidence regarding his own abilities.
As of yet we can't be 100% sure as to where Frank de Boer intends to use him but given the make-up of our squad, I would suggest that he'll occupy a role on the left-hand side of our back three, allowing others to push forward more freely whilst also possessing the ability to find his teammates with long passes out to the flanks.
There will always be a steep learning curve for any young player stepping into the Premier League from the Eredivisie but his performances since turning professional have been impressive enough to suggest that he'll adapt quickly to the pace and physicality of the division, particularly with Frank de Boer at his side.
I'm sure we will see other defensive reinforcements arriving before the summer transfer window closes but when you consider our lack of activity in the market so far, the signing of Riedewald is an extremely positive move, which will hopefully act as a catalyst for a few more over the coming weeks.
