Crystal Palace continue to be heavily linked with a move for Arsenal's Calum Chambers and despite plenty of Eagles fans having their doubts over the defender, Gunners everywhere appear to be gutted at the prospect.
Given the lack of game-time afforded to him by Arsene Wenger since he was signed from Southampton back in back in 2014, Calum has struggled to convince plenty of casual onlookers of his abilities. That said, his impressive displays for a doomed Middlesbrough side last season go a long way to proving that despite his tender age, (he's still just 22) he does have the stomach for a fight at either end of the Premier League table.
It is a testament to him, given few chances to impress in a red and white shirt, that his stock remains so high at The Emirates. It goes without saying that the class of defender available to Arsene Wenger is high but in the few opportunities he has been given, he's clearly made a hugely positive impact.
As I've touched upon previously, all Palace fans should be reminded of the fact, during their time together at Southampton, few could separate Chambers and Nathaniel Clyne ability-wise, regardless of the age gap that exists between the pair. I'm sure I don't need to remind any of you how fondly Clyne is remembered by the Selhurst Park faithful, making that comparison an extremely favourable one for the Arsenal man.
The frustration displayed by Gunners at the thought of losing Chambers acts as a hugely positive sign for me on a personal level, particularly when you consider the room that still exists for growth in his overall game. Known to be keen to link up with Frank de Boer given the Dutchman's preference for passing football, it's a move that could end up working out extremely well for both the club and the player if we can force it over the line.
Seeing the distraught rant of the Arsenal fan attached above has certainly raised my eyebrow and I'm sure it will yours too.
