We might still be waiting for things to be made “official” but Crystal Palace’s twitter account pretty much announced the arrival of Frank de Boer as the club’s new manager in a superbly constructed tweet this morning.
We’ve had to wait more than a month for news regarding Sam Allardyce’s permanent successor but after stories of an official approach for de Boer broke last week, Palace fans everywhere have been desperate for the club to reveal him to the world as our new manager and after the above tweet, it looks as though today is the day.
Only a day or two ago, chairman Steve Parish’s daughter uploaded a video of him rapping a verse to the Sugarhill Gang’s 1979 classic song “Rapper’s Delight” with many speculating that a deal had been completed for the Dutch legend to take over the reins at Selhurst Park and now, with a press conference having been called for 2pm, it’s just a matter of time before Frank’s arrival is rubber-stamped.
Given the now global appeal of the Premier League, there will have been plenty of people who were left a tad baffled by the meaning behind Palace’s tweet early this morning but any confusion over the significance of the footage used was soon cleared up in the replies to the post, with those who have been attending games for years filling in anyone who needed a helping hand.
For many, things like social media will never be seen as important but it should be said that the club have really stepped their game up on that front in the last few years. Regularly funny, the guys who run the club’s Twitter page really do understand the way our supporters think and it shows.
Prepare yourselves everyone, a managerial announcement is on the way.
