Whilst plenty of Palace fans are focussing their full attention on the team’s battle to avoid the drop, some cast an towards next season’s kit, with a possible design for the new campaign attached below.
The ever-changing Palace kit is a subject that generates a remarkable amount of debate and disagreement amongst our fan-base each year. Admittedly, there are a few who find the whole thing a little bit trivial but huge numbers of supporters care deeply about the look and feel of each season’s shirt, as proven by the reaction to this year’s kit last summer.
When it was unveiled at the club’s Player Of The Year event, chairman Steve Parish uttered the now infamous words, “There’s only so much you can do with stripes” before revealing a block-styled red and blue shirt. Unsurprisingly, the reaction in the room and on social media was mixed, leading many to speculate about a swift return to the classic striped style for the 2017/18 season.
For what it’s worth, our current kit has grown on me hugely over the months in which we’ve been wearing it but in truth, I will always feel infinitely happier to see a Palace side turning out in red and blue stripes ahead of anything else. I can fully understand and even applaud the club’s desire for change last summer but football fans are by their very nature creatures of habit when it comes to matters such as this.
Should we indeed adopt a design that is similar or even identical to the effort proposed via the link at the top of the page I will nail my colours to the mast now and say that I would be extremely happy with it. As soon as I caught a glimpse of the proposal it felt like a Palace kit, harking back to the early 1990’s in a manner that is sure to please the vast majority of our supporters.
What do you think?
