If you missed Steve Parish’s appearance on BT Sport following Crystal Palace’s 2-0 defeat at home to Burnley, you can now watch the interview in full, via the link below.
Whilst the Crystal Palace co-chairman has been an active Twitter user for a number of years, it’s always good to see him appearing live in front of TV cameras to answer the questions of supporters and pundits, without much space for wriggle room on topics he would otherwise look to avoid.
The above footage sees him pressed for clarification on Zaha’s long-term Palace future, our plans for Mamadou Sakho over the summer and rumours suggesting that he and his fellow investors are open to the idea of selling the club amongst many other things. Far from given bland, baseless answers in the style of a modern-day politician, Parish approaches the interview in a remarkably candid fashion, shedding light wherever he can rather than putting up a brick wall.
It would have been easy for him to have entered the TV studio fuming at what he’d just witnessed on the pitch but to his credit, he remained extremely level-headed throughout; god knows what I or countless other supporters would have been like had we been thrust into a similar scenario moments after such a disappointing performance on our own turf. In truth, it’s probably a perfect indication of the edges that have been knocked off Steve during the seven-year stint he’s spent at the top of Palace’s totem-pole but even so, it was an impressively measured display.
The last few weeks of the season are proving to be an extremely uncertain time for the Eagles faithful but the interview attached above gave me a large number of reasons to be cheerful and I’m sure it will for you too.
It’s worth watching for his comments on Wilfried Zaha’s Palace future alone to be quite honest with you.
