Steve Parish appeared live on BT Sport last night following Crystal Palace’s 2-0 defeat to Burnley to answer questions regarding all manner of topics, including the future of Wilfried Zaha.
For the last 18 months or so, Wilfried Zaha has been linked with a move to Tottenham Hotspur in the press, forcing Parish to regularly contend with questions alluding to an imminent sale. Whilst he has always been happy to discuss the situation publicly, yesterday’s answer, when pressed by Jake Humphrey, was one of the most positive he’s ever given.
I don’t doubt that he’s tired of fielding queries about Zaha’s future at Selhurst Park but in many ways, the intense speculation is a sign that Wilfried is making the right sort of impact in red and blue.
In truth, any casual onlooker worth their salt would raise questions over the winger’s suitability to Spurs’ tactical set-up, given his love of isolating full-backs with the ball at his feet but as we all know, most sporting hosts care little about such things when large transfer fees can be speculated over.
Thankfully, Steve Parish has always handled questions relating to Zaha with professionalism, knowing full well that every word he utters on the subject in a public setting will be pulled apart by thousands of fans.
This latest instance is no exception, in fact, I would go as far as to say, it’s the most positive comment I’ve heard from the Palace chairman on Wilf’s future since Tottenham’s interest in him was first made official a year or so ago. There will always be a huge amount of chatter from those on the outside looking in but you can’t ask for much more from Parish than the response he has given above.
