Palace’s Scouts Spotted At European Game: Who Were They Watching?

Crystal Palace and West Bromwich Albion may be going head to head over certain transfer targets this summer, after their respective scouts were spotted together.

This report explains where in Europe Crystal Palace and West Brom have been sending their scouts in recent weeks.

Following a run of fantastic results under the guidance of Sam Allardyce, the Eagles are now seven points clear of 18th placed Swansea with four games remaining, prompting many to believe that safety is all but secured for another year. Whilst it’s not advisable to count any chickens before they have hatched, tentative plans for the following campaign have to be drawn up as a matter of necessity, which is where our scouting trips across Europe come in.

Whilst the exact identity of our individual targets have not been disclosed as of yet, it’s always a great source of comfort to me and countless others to know that the club are being proactive in relation to their recruitment drives well in advance of the transfer window opening.

There are bound to be numerous reports linking us with all manner of players between now and August but the above article differs from the usual template in that it offers facts rather than guesswork. Whilst West Brom’s presence at the same venue points towards a competitive summer, it’s fair to say that our work in the transfer market has become far slicker in recent years following an adjustment period immediately after winning promotion back in 2013.

In truth, the jobs of scouting departments at every top football club has become far more difficult with the spread of the internet. Now, there is next to no annonymoty for anyone at games, with journalists across the world keen to grab a scoop for their readers whenever the opportunity presents itself. Whilst no one is quite who we were watching specifically, our mere decision to attend the game is likely to draw inquisitive glances from further up the food-chain.

We shall see.
