Crystal Palace’s 2016/17 Premier League campaign has seen the likes of Zaha and Benteke taking centre stage in the eyes of the press but the montage attached below does a glorious job of shining a light on three of our lesser mentioned heroes.
Anyone who watches Palace regularly will know that all three of the aforementioned players have come in for their fair share of criticism from our fan-base at different points but since the arrival of Big Sam in the Selhurst Park dugout, all three have shown what they’re truly capable of, pushing the team away from the bottom three in the process.
Whether you look towards Wayne Hennessey’s improvement under the watchful eye of new goalkeeping coach Martyn Margeston, Yohan’s added quality in the middle of the park following Milivojevic’s arrival or Townsend’s new-found love of a lung-bursting run, all three have upped their game significantly. It’s a byproduct of the professional approach Allardyce has insisted on behind the scenes; a dramatic shift from the style of management used by his immediate predecessor, Alan Pardew.
Monday night’s win over Arsenal was one of the most complete Palace performances I’ve ever had the pleasure to witness, spearheaded by the trio referenced above just as much as any of the club’s “star” names. Big Sam has instilled a work-ethic throughout the squad which demands that each and every individual pulls their weight in order to succeed. After some initial bumps in the road, his methods are now bearing fruit, elevating some previously forgotten names into the limelight.
Our recent climb away from immediate danger has been an incredibly rewarding thing to watch. The above footage pays tribute to three of key components in our upturn in form. Give it a watch, you won’t regret it.
