Mamadou Sakho has been performing superbly for Crystal Palace since arriving on loan from Liverpool, prompting one of his old coaches to aim a ludicrously ignorant dig at the Eagles in the press.
Since the French international made the switch from Merseyside to SE25, plenty of Reds’ fans have been quick to express their love for the towering central defender, with many openly stating that Klopp had made a huge mistake in letting him leave. That being said, I’ve not seen any Liverpool fans spew the sort of self-entitled rubbish that has come from a man who was employed by the club via the link above.
Quite what qualifies Beale to make such derisory statements about Crystal Palace is up for debate. Were you to be reading his words with no prior knowledge of our club’s recent history, you would assume we’d just won promotion to the Premier League on a budget of £8.50. In reality, we are now looking likely to secure a fifth straight season in the top flight having beaten his old employers on three separate occasions along the way.
Although it will be hugely tricky for Palace to tie Sakho down to a permanent deal this summer, the man himself is clearly not ruling the move out. Having happily bought into the culture at Selhurst Park before receiving rave reviews from his teammates and manager, Sakho’s own behaviour makes Beale’s comments look all the more absurd.
I have a lot of time for Liverpool FC. The history of success, the fan-base and the pride the club shows in their local area are all traits to be admired. It’s just a shame that people such as Michael Beale feel empowered to speak down to clubs like ours as a consequence of those characteristics.
