REPORT: Mandanda Holds “Meeting” With Marseille’s Director Of Football

Since making the move to Selhurst Park last summer, Steve Mandanda’s Crystal Palace career has lurched from one crisis to another, with yet more reports surfacing today over a proposed move away when the season draws to a close.

This report offers details of a “meeting” between Mandanda and officials from Marseille in recent weeks.

Whilst Steve himself took to Instagram to dispel any rumours of an imminent move away from SE25 a few weeks ago, his continued absence from Sam Allardyce’s match-day squad coupled with a seemingly never-ending stream of speculation over his future from across the Channel points towards a deal being struck sooner rather than later.

Although some supporters have grown incredibly frustrated by the ongoing saga involving for keeper, I must admit that I’m not too bothered if he stays or goes at this point. Admittedly, his signing was one that excited me hugely when it was first announced but after regularly hearing rumblings of the big man being homesick, I’m ready to chalk the deal down to experience before we cut our ties at the end of the season.

Despite an impressive run of form from Hennessey in recent weeks, I fully expect Big Sam to ship Mandanda out in the summer and secure a new first-choice goalkeeper from one of Europe’s top leagues, making Wayne a more than capable deputy. Some will inevitably claim that such a shift would be harsh on the Welshman but Allardyce is nothing if not a pragmatist.

Who knows, had Mandanda brought his entire family along for the ride rather than leaving them back in France things may have turned out differently but we should not hold any lasting grudges against the man if he is simply not happy in his work from day to day. Yes, he’s being paid a large amount of money by the club but at his core, he remains a human being and that should be respected by our board and fan-base alike.
