VIDEO: A Glorious Angle Of Troy Deeney’s Palace Winner

Two days may have passed since Crystal Palace’s pivotal 1-0 win over Watford but that doesn’t mean our supporters should be robbed of the opportunity to enjoy a fantastic angle of Troy Deeney’s winning own goal in front of the Holmesdale.

This video shows Deeney’s near post winner from Saturday. It couldn’t have happened to a nicer bloke…

Whilst last weekend’s encounter with the Hornets may not have been one that will live long in the memory of footballing purists, it made for an engaging spectacle as a home supporter. Full of fiery challenges, it was a clash in which both sides made little secret of their dislike for each other; indeed, it was thanks to a moment of unashamed indiscipline from Sebastian Prodl that Palace got their noses in front midway through the second half.

Already riled after a tussle which saw him end up on the turf, the Austrian centre-back saw Zaha tearing away down the right flank and saw an opportunity to gain some sort of revenge. Making a beeline for the Ivory Coast international, Prodl body-checked the Palace star, happily taking the yellow card and lining up to defend the incoming free-kick from Cabaye. Unfortunately for him and his teammates, it was that foul which led to the only goal of the game, as Deeney stooped to clear Yohan’s dangerous cross and diverted it past Gomes in the process.

The remaining 25 minutes were played in much the same tone. It was frantic, fast-paced and full-blooded but thanks to the basic principles instilled by Big Sam and his coaching staff in recent weeks, the players secured another three points, thanks to a third consecutive clean sheet; something that we didn’t manage at any point in Alan Pardew’s 23 month tenure.

We now have another two week break thanks to a batch of international qualifiers, so take your time to bask in the glory of captain Deeney’s clinical near-post header. It’s put us four points clear of the bottom three.
